vacation rental cottage is very private and perfect for two couples or a family of four. Located below the peak of Winter
Star mountain at 3,500 feet, Blue Heaven is the epitome of cool mountain rentals, even when temperatures in the valley are
in the 90 degree range. You can hear the sounds of falling water from North Fork Creek below. Just up the one-lane country
road, enjoy a gorgeous waterfall, at a "high bridge" that passes over huge boulders. You can hike
more than twenty-five miles of dirt roads to the summit of Winter Star or go on to Mt. Mitchell - highest point in the
eastern U.S. - about five miles as the crow flies. A covered area for outdoor dining and cooking and a large deck with
filtered sunlight and cool breezes - create the perfect place to enjoy a good book or a long nap. The Cattail Creek Community, just South of Burnsville, NC
is in the famous Black Mountains - highest peaks east of the Mississippi and among the oldest mountains in the world.
 The perfect place for morning coffee or maybe
a glass of wine before dinner. You're in a cool wooded setting looking down on a country road that twists and turns back and
forth for miles and miles as it winds it's way up - higher and higher to the peak of Winter Star mountain. When you finally
arrive, the views are awesome - like being on top of world - just the two of you. Or, if you happen to be a bit out of
shape just stroll a hundred yards or so up to the high bridge where a park bench is waiting by a bold mountain stream
called Winter Star creek.
Twilight - something you don't
have in the low country. It's a strange and wonderful time here in the mountains when a hush falls on everything and the air
is still and the sun has dropped below the ridge. The local folk say that if you really listen, you can hear the trees
growing. If you find yourself taking a walk - be sure and bring a flashlight to find your way back - seriously -
within an hour of twilight, when the moon is dim, the light will suddenly fail and you'll be standing in the middle
of the road in pitch black darkness - can't even see your hand in front of your face.

The laundry room is separate from
the cottage - that'S great - she can be doing your laundry while you catch a couple extra hours of shut eye. Good plan,
and you'll have those favorite jeans to wear again - you know - the ones you spilled hot sauce on last night?
Yes, the nights are quite cool,
even when the temps in Charlotte and Raleigh are nearing 100 degrees, you'll be building a fire in the chiminea and sitting
round with friends telling tall tales - each trying to out do the other. Is there a more relaxing way to spend a long weekend
away from crowded highways and ringing phones?
Who knows, you might meet up with some
others on the road and decide to share a meal. There are many cabins here with people just like you, getting away from the
city for a few days and nights of cool mountain breezes. So, invite them up for a cookout - of course there's a grill - everyone
brings something - hopefully a little beer and wine comes along as well. The picnic table is large enough for ten or so -
don't think about cleaning up - leave everything until morning and just try to relax for awhile!
So, there's only one bath - not a big deal - it's large enough for two at a time and brand new. Marble vanity, sparkling fixtures with shower tub so everyone will be happy, right? You're not going to spend your weekend in
the bathroom now are you?
