Like many other rural areas in this country, Yancey County has a long and fascinating history which is well documented and maintained in our local library for all to enjoy. As in all things historic, images play an important role and so this page is devoted to old homes and other buildings - many of which have been abandoned and neglected but continue to stand as reminders of other times when they sheltered families, entertained guests and served as gathering places and income producing entities of significance to those who came before us. Time will eventually have its way and these old homesteads and stores will fall quite literally by the wayside but we'll recall them still through pictures.
